SCHOOL ST. FALLS VIEW PARK

Owner: Brookfield Renewable Power
Site: School St. Hydro Plant, Cohoes, NY
Project Objectives:
Construction of a recreational park and overlook to observe the Cohoes Falls.

Scope of Work:
  • General site preparation included clearing and grubbing, installation of site access roads and installation of temporary fencing around the project site
  • Retaining walls, sitting areas and planters were all constructed from precut colored stone blocks which were used in the park entrance area and the overlook areas. Each individual block had to be placed by hand. The height of the walls ranged for 4’ to 12’ tall for a total length of 2,500 liner feet.
  • The project also included the fabrication and installation of two ADA compliant fishing platforms which provide fishing access to the power plant canal.
  • To access the new falls overlook Brookfield supplied a 200’ single span pedestrian bridge. A total of twelve H-piles were driven to rock for the concrete bridge abutments. The bridge was erected on flexifloats in the canal with our 200ton truck crane and pushed up stream with our double screw tug boat. Once in position the canal water level was lowered until the bridge was in place.
