Caterpillar 641 Scraper Now Greets Visitors of the D.A. Collins HQ
If you drive by the D.A. Collins Companies headquarters on Ballard Rd., you can’t miss our new landmark. The Caterpillar 641 Scraper was founder Donald (D.A.) Collins’ favorite machine. He loved watching and listening to the impressive 641’s being pushed by the D9’s, as the scraper seemingly encompasses everything our industry is; raw and powerful.
D.A. and his grandson, David Collins, would drive from job to job just so D.A. could watch the scraper run. This year would have been D.A.’s 100th birthday, and David wanted to celebrate the legacy of his grandfather, and give our company headquarters a well-deserved landmark paralleling the heart and soul of our company.
A special thanks to Jason Todd at Geronimo Painting, who sandblasted and painted the scraper, and to Jerry Leary at Milton CAT, who donated all the decals. These decals are now obsolete, so Jerry had them custom made for this project. Finally, a thank you to everyone from our team who coordinated, prepared, and made this project happen.
