Project Objectives:
Replace an existing five-way Intersection in the heart of downtown Glens Falls with a new Roundabout
 
 
Scope of Work:
  • The project site is a notoriously busy intersection on State Route 9 at the intersection with Route 9L, Route 32 and Broad Street.
  • This project required careful and detailed coordination with business owners and city utilities, especially during the relocation phase of existing power and gas lines in the densely developed downtown area.
  • The project phasing demanded a detailed schedule in order to maintain orderly vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
  • The majority of work included the excavation of 19,000cy of old road asphalt, sub-base and fill, installation of 9,800cy of new stone sub-base and of over 18,000 tons of asphalt.
  • Over 3,000 linial feet of of drainage pipe was installed along with 64 drainage structures.
  • Other work included the installation of water lines, curbs, sidewalks, street stripping, landscaping, decritive street and lighting and new energy effecent LED traffic signals.
  • A unique feature of the drainage rehabilitation was the lining of drain pipes with polyester liners. After cleaning the pipes the liners were placed in the existing pipes, inflated then heat cured to seal the old pipes and create a water tight system.
  • Although city leaders, business owners and the general public expected a long and difficult construction period, the Superintendent kept all fully informed and completed the project ahead of schedule and within budget.
